I remain amazed at the sense of entitlement that has accumulated in some
parts of the library community.  I am not overlooking the importance of
libraries in general, but the fact is that libraries are mostly (save
special libraries and other such exceptions) creatures of government
appropriations.  As such they have the same public and professional
obligations as, say, the highway department.  I am not slamming
libraries, librarians, or the First Amendment.  I do feel, however, that
we are inclined to get a little taken with ourselves.  There is a bit
too much "we know best" and a tad too little "what are your objections"
as I see it.  Just a thought....
