Netscape woes

Lately we've had problems with several Win 95 machines running Netscape -- the
program freezes and nothing will unstick it but rebooting.  Or we constantly
get "illegal operation" messages and have to restart.  All these machines were
running NN Gold 3.01.  We've tried reinstalling Netscape, which seems to have
cleared up the problems, but we don't understand why this would happen.  We do
empty our caches, so I doubt it's that.  Anyone have similar experiences?  Any
words of wisdom?  I should also mention that we're running ViruScan and Fortres
101 on these machines.
