ALA will launch a national campaign to educate parents
about the Internet in connection with the announcement of
the Supreme Court decision on the Communications Decency
Act expected any day.

Support materials for local libraries will be introduced
at the Annual Conference in San Francisco. These include
a tip sheet for librarians and a new camera-ready brochure,
The Librarian's Guide to Cyberspace for Parents and Kids.
The brochure and 50+ Great sites for Kids and Parents can
be found on the ALA homepage at:
http://www.ala.org/parentspage/greatsites.
The web site will continue to be updated and expanded
with titles for children and teens.

Media placements are being sought in USA Today, parenting
magazines and other national media. Many libraries have
excellent educational programs already in place. This
campaign aims to focus attention on these efforts and
promote intensified efforts to help parents help their
children be "webwise."

There is also a 'Tip Sheet' for librarians with sample
press releases, sample Q&A, publicity and promotion
ideas, public service annoucement,messages, more
resources, etc.

To receive copies of these materials, please call the
