And even those of us who do have certain professional ethical
responsibilities. :)

To me, this is one of the most important points I have seen mentioned.
Isn't this something which we, as a profession, have been arguing for
decades (or longer)? If even those of us in Librarianship do not consider
information processing, value adding, etc., to be valuable then perhaps
the notoriously low salaries available to much of the profession are
quite justified? Hmmm.
