Years ago - things may have changed, maybe even significantly - when I
was a military instructor, we had a short class on copyright
law for trainers and teachers. We were given several valid
and legal exceptions to what copyright restricts, including
education without recompense. I am not a lawyer, but I
submit, unless zendog is and is dispensing free advice -
unusual for a lawyer - that it is not clear that sending the
story in this venue was a violation of law. Nor is the
opposing view. I am only speaking authoritatively of me
experience, not the law. How about some research from you
          research librarians?

My read of posts on this thread is that some people seem
to think the copyright law is a guideline, and that it is up to
each of us to decide whether or not we will copy and
distribute copyrighted material. That how much copyrighted
material we will post is a personal ethical decision.

Is it not clear that sending this story was a violation of law,
and that posting it is either ignorance of the law or an act
of civil disobedience?
