Hi 
I have been experimenting with Isite,
http://vinca.cnidr.org:80/software/Isite/
a free software from CNIDR. It can index various document types, including
USMARC, and also has an optional Z39.50 gateway. 
Recommended.

Initial blurb from their web site....

CNIDR Isite is an integrated Internet publishing software
package including a text indexer, a search engine and
Z39.50 communication tools to access databases. Isite
includes the CNIDR ZDist, Isearch and Search API
distributions.
