Position available:   Dean, Learning Resources and Technology Services

Salary:               $85,000

Date of appointment:  July 1, 1997

Responsibilities:     The university is seeking a dynamic leader who is 
                      primarily responsible for providing leadership, 
                      planning, coordination and management relative to all 
                      personnel, programs and services in Learning 
                      Resources/Technology Services, including library 
                      services (collection of 1.7 million items, select 
                      document depository), data, video, and interactive 
                      television services, academic computer information 
                      services, campus network services, and an academic 
                      department offering undergraduate and graduate programs 
                      in information technology, school library media, and 
                      human resources training.  Characteristic duties 
                      include:

                         1) Provide leadership in the development of the          
                            philosophy/mission of LR/TS at SCSU, within the 
                            Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System 
                            (MnSCU), among other institutions of higher 
                            education, and within the greater Central 
                            Minnesota community;
                         2) Manage the fiscal and personnel components of 
                            LR/TS;
                         3) Provide direction and work with the 
                            administration, faculty and student organizations 
                            to ensure appropriate use of LR/TS facilities;
                         4) Advance the uses of technology and be 
                            knowledgeable about emerging technologies;
                         5) Administer MnSCU rules and regulations, collective 
                            bargaining contracts, university, state and 
                            federal policies as they pertain to LR/TS;
                         6) Serve as director of the Center for Information 
                            Media's undergraduate and graduate academic 
                            programs, and consult with the Dean of the College 
                            of Education and cooperate with departments in the 
                            development of CIM's programs;
                         7) Seek external funding to support new facility 
                            scheduled to begin construction Fall, 1997, and 
                            for other program activities.

Qualifications:       Doctorate in appropriate field required.  Master's in 
                      information science, instructional technology, library 
                      science, or equivalent preferred.  Five years 
                      administrative experience with increasing 
                      responsibilities in administration, library, media and 
                      technology services and teaching required.  Also 
                      required: excellent communication and interpersonal 
                      skills, along with an ability to work collegially and 
                      inclusively with administrtors, faculty, staff and 
                      students through shared decision-making; experience in 
                      strategic and financial planning, budgets, external 
                      funding, grants and fund-raising; and a commitment to 
                      concepts of affirmative action, cultural diversity, and 
                      participative management.  Experience in a collective 
                      bargaining environment highly desirable.
