A lot of heavy library users are unix users and some even MacOS so this is
not a worry to them.

The purpose of MIME is to tell the machine at the client end how to handle
the file. If its a machine in the library you control in so you set it up
to handle what you think is reasonable. If its not a library machine you
send files in a format which you think most people can handle and tell them
how to set up their MIME mappings.

If you can't do that send in TEXT/PLAIN.
