True, those are available and are generally free. However, I'd
rather spend a few bucks for the right tool for the job. Also,
when you're using a remote service, you're slowed down by
the extra traffic to an often-busy server. Plus, standalone
tools generally give you MANY more options on what is
checked, how it is checked, what kinds of reports you get,
etc, etc. I've used some of the remote ones and they just
don't compare to products that can run on your desktop for a
few bucks.

I haven't seen those shareware things though, maybe there
are differences in functionality.

I think you'll find that to be the case. I'd recommend trying
several, including the one I like, and then making your own
choice based on need, price, etc.
