There are also a number of commercially available products on the market.
The coolest of which allow you to encode video into any format you want,
store it in a relational database, and stream it out over WWW connections.
One of the products available, SGI's MediaBase 2.0 will even read the speed
of the client accessing the video and optimize the streaming for that
particular connection - using RSVP technology. The real power of the
product is it's cross-compatability. It will run with almost any
compression strategy on almost any sort of network. It is really one of
the coolest multimedia products to come out for the Web in a long time.
