Options with dialup ... update

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to write me so quickly. You
have given me very good advice, even without having all the info. I've
learned I should have told you that our connection isn't a dedicated
line, thus the timing out is understandable; as one of you said, 24-hour
connectivity often means I have the privilege to dial in 24 hours a day,
but not to dial in and hang off their connection for hours on end. I did
get one suggestion about freeware that will ping the web every 4 min. As
for overriding the home page default and customizing colors, I've tried
to do that via Options/General Preference, but when our connection is
broken and we dial back in, these changes are lost. Our vendor's
software is a version of Personal Netscape, which I also learned from
you is a 16 bit version of Netscape 2.0 that doesn't allow me to modify
the "home setting." However, you also told me how I might be able to
do that anyway. Finally, your msgs. have been not only informative,
but funny and encouraging. As for the question about why an .edu site
should be dependent upon a dial-up connection to run Netscape, well we're
working on a LAN that (hopefully) will be up and running in a few months.
We had a system connection for awhile, until the old server died, and
this is our band-aid. At least it gave us time to create a library home
page, and we miss it. Thanks again.
