I sent my response to Susan directly. Because many are sharing their
projects with the whole listserv, I thought I would too. Here's what's
going on in Idaho. Rand
P.S. The sharing of projects is valuable. Thanks, everybody.

Susan - We are working on such a project for the state of Idaho. I'd be
glad to share details. We are only about 6 months into the planning
process. We envision three parts to our project:
1) home page with access to Idaho libraries (telnet or java links to
OPACs, access to Idaho library home pages) and access to information
about Idaho. Our web site should be up by June 1, 1997.
2) access to full-text databases through a negotiated statewide license.
3) access to Idaho library OPACs through a Z39.50 gateway -- basically
a "one-stop shop."
We hope to have phases 2 & 3 available by June 30, 1998.
There are a number of project like ours out there. I'd welcome an
ongoing discussion.
Rand

We are interested in information from those of you who may have, or are
planning to set up a project similar to GALILEO, essentially a state-wide
WWW access site with commercial databases (GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning
Online)
[located at http://www.galileo.peachnet.edu]. The sites that we want to
check out include those that:
1. Have a central access point for library patrons across the state or at
least a large group of patrons whose use of commercial databases is
offered.
2. The commercial databases offered to the library patrons would
include
full-text. Some non-commercial databases are likely to be made
available as well. Z39.50 to WWW gateways are likely to be a part of
the
project design.
3. Other features of such projects may include organized web pages of
links
to information on the web (e.g., subject heading approach).
I've checked the WEB4LIB archives and not had much luck finding out
what we
want to know. Any of you out there know of any projects like Galileo?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
