Printer suggestions, networked laser vs. individual inkjets

The old dot matrix printers at our reference stations no longer do the
job. So, should we get one networked laser or start replacing dot matrix
with individual inkjets? Do you recommend a model that has worked for
you? Yes, I searched the archive, but the last time this question was
asked the replies weren't all that informative, because an off-topic post
redirected the discussion.

We have 5-10 pc's that all access a netware fileserver if that makes a
difference. We've decided that speed and ease of maintenance are our
primary objectives for this migration. We have options for a backup
laser printer if the primary machine would go out of service. We have
decided to try and be recycling heroes by reusing the backsides of paper
rescued from the recycling bin. We think the answer is a networked laser,
but how bad is it to sort multiple print jobs at a busy service counter?

How about cost recovery? We don't charge for dot matrix print outs, but
the computer lab upstairs has been charging ten cents a page for laser
prints. Our director thinks we should charge for laser prints in our area
if we make them available.

Should we leave the impact printers connected or retire them?

Will summarize replies and repost to list.
