Netscape errors and locking

We have recently encountered a problem on the Internet - our Netscape
browser (2.02 & 2.02 final versions) has been locking up on us if one stops
using the browser for more than a few minutes. Also, we have been getting
"socket not connected" error messages when attempting to click on some links
or submit queries using a form (one of our patrons got this yesterday trying
to do a search in MorningStar Mutual Funds Online, which had been working in
the past).
I've not seen this error before a few weeks ago - what does it mean? Is it
the new replacement for "Failed DNS lookup" which we haven't got for awhile?
Also, what would make Netscape lockup suddenly - you lose the mouse cursor,
keyboard control, everything. You can do a CNTL+ALT+DEL but end up having
to reboot.
Anybody got any ideas?
