An opportunity to shape a new University
Southern Cross University is a regional University with an enviable
reputation in the development of innovative educational programs. It has
campuses at Lismore, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie with University
Centres in Brisbane, Coolangatta, Murwillumbah, Grafton and Sydney. In
addition, there are students studying with the University throughout
Australia and South East Asia. The University prides itself on building
co-operative arrangements with business, industry, government and other
universities . The research profile of the University has rapidly
improved over the last five years with strengths in areas such as
environmental management, plant conservation genetics, regional
development, exercise science and workplace development. Further details

The University has adopted a plan which seeks to further transform the
University over the next few years. The plan has a dual strategy of
delivering world class programs coupled with extensive co-operative and
brokering relationships. It sees fundament al changes in the learning
relationships between student and faculty assisted, in part, by the
transition of educational programs to electronic learning support. The
University has also recently completed an Information Technology Plan to
further these ambitious long term goals.
The University is seeking to make a senior appointment which further
strengthens the provision of Information Services in ways which support
the values and outcomes expressed in the University Plan.
The Director of Information Services will be responsible to the
Vice-Chancellor for the development and delivery of a portfolio of key
information and learning support services in the functional areas of:
* Information Technology * University Centres and Open Learning
* The University Library * Learning Assistance.
The appointee will also be required to participate in policy development
across the University, and to assume other tasks and responsibilities
outside those specific to the above portfolio, as the Vice-Chancellor may
assign from time to time. The Director of Information Services will also be
a member of the Vice-Chancellor's Senior Executive Committee and, as such,
will be expected to develop corporate views and advice on a wide range of
University issues.

The remuneration package for the position includes an attractive salary,
employer subsidised superannuation and the private use of a University
vehicle.
The appointment will be offered on the basis of a five year contract.
