The issue of multiple access is managed by your CD-ROM network and
software. We us Logicraft's LanCD and multiple users depending on our
licensening restrictions can use the CD-ROM's. It doesn't make any
difference whether we use our web pages to launch them, or use a
separate menu like SaberLan for Windows. We've used OpenWeb for the
launcher on the Web pages, but there are some others. We're using
Windows NT for the CD-ROM application server and TCP/IP.

The use of web launcher programs to extend access to CD-ROM databases
to Internet/intranet web users sounds like an intriguing idea . But one
quetion: when a web browser activates the CD-ROM search program, isn't
access to that particular CD blocked to any other user? If so, it seems
like you'd have a tough time managing the use of such
resources especially among a bunch of remote users, say in branch
libraries.
Is there any way to allow more than one simultaneous user of a CD over
an IP network?
Thanks,
