Job Announcement: Library System Administrator

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:  The Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County is looking for a Library System Administrator.  This position is responsible for the administration, support, training, coordination & planning for Dynix which provides acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, intra-library loan, PAC/DialPAC, Telecirc, ENS, and Internet access.  Comprehensive knowledge of computer applications in libraries, system upgrades and installation, and system management practices are required.  An early project will include the conversion of the Dynix system to new hardware and release level.  Requires flexible schedule, including working weekends and evenings to accommodate emergencies on the library system.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Extensive Dynix Recall or equivalent software required.  Must have UNIX administrator knowledge including operating system installation & script writing.  Capable of trouble shooting & repair of terminals & printers including installation of new equipment.  Knowledge of WAN equipment desired.  Applicants should have strong communication and interpersonal skills.  Three years professional experience in a library & two years experience in computer technologies.  Extensive Dynix or equivalent library system experience is a must.  Two year associate degree in computer technologies and/or graduate degree in library or information science highly desirable.
  Hiring range is $32,513 to $40,641.  Position's range to $55,272.  Applications will be accepted through 10/24/96 or until a candidate is hired.
