Making Bookmarks read-only

Susie,
It's pretty straightforward but low-tech, if you're talking about a
Windows machine. I don't know how to do it on a Mac. And unless you couple
it with some other form of security program, some folks might know or figure
out how to get around it.
In Windows 3.1: Open the File Manager and select/highlight the bookmark
file (called BOOKMARK.HTM). Go to the File menu and choose Properties....
Put an X in the Read Only attribute, then click OK.
In Windows 95: It's pretty much the same. Either open My Computer or
Windows Explorer and locate the Netscape Bookmark file (again,
BOOKMARK.HTM). Go to the File menu and choose Properties. Put a check in
the Read only attribute and click OK.
If you want to be able to write over the file (to update the bookmarks,
say), just go to Properties and uncheck the Read Only attribute. As I say,
though, others will either know how to do this or will figure it out as
well, so it ought to be used in conjunction with another program.
