Hello all,

Last month I posted a query for experiences concerning self-published
annotated 'webliographies' and tenure review processes.

Only two responses directly addressed the issue, both contenting that
webliographies are not research. Given the range of activities LSU
categories as Research/Scholarship which includes the "creation of widely
used and disseminated finding aids or databases" and the tradition that
print, peer-reviewed or edited annotated bibliographies, the advent of
Library published, independently rated webliographies created quite the
lively discussion among the LSU Librarians.

First, the Library Faculty pose that if a webliography contains
the same intellectual characteristics of print bibliographies, then it
could be considered for Research/Scholarship. The real task now is the
establishment of solid, reputable review sources for annotated
webliographies. (Who's going to do that?) Second, one's vita better
include more than just webliographies. Greater value will still be placed
upon more traditional research publications, in print or electronic forms.

Some of these particulars may change as this continues pass through the
faculty python.

If there is interest, I can explore the political/administrative
possibilities of placing the faculty position paper on the web.

David
