NOTICE OF PROFESSIONAL VACANCY
LIBRARY WEB MANAGER - (INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST II)
University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA
SUMMARY
The Library Web Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating
the design, development and maintenance of the University of
Pennsylvania Library System's webpages. Develops and promotes standards
and style guides for use by library web developers.Tracks new web
development tools and provides training and guidance in their use.
Reports to the Director for Public Services.
DUTIES
Leads a library web development team and in consultation with this group
sets policy and makes decisions relating to web design and organization.
Works with all library web developers to maintain the quality and utility
of the Library's electronic interface. Develops style sheets and
standards, and promotes the use of these. Ensures the currency and
accuracy of web links and information. Designs and supports customized
WWW extensions such as enhanced indexing, electronic forms and future
applications. Works closely with Library Systems staff to monitor and
evaluate new web development tools, such as graphics software, HTML
editors and search applications. Monitors web development by peer
institutions. Stays current with HTML development, new web browsers,
indexing tools, etc. Trains staff in the use of web development tools,
provides expert advice and consultation. Works with the Vice provost and
staff to train, prepare web demonstrations, etc. for administrators and
faculty groups. Works in close cooperation with University web developers
and others on campus to share expertise and coordinate efforts where
appropriate. Maintains statistics on web use. Supervises students
assisting in web maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in theory and practice. Excellent verbal
and written communication skills. Ability to act decisively and work
with a dynamic team. Strong organizational skills and excellent sense of
visual and structural design. Creativity and problem solving skills.
Understanding of academic institutions and libraries. Working knowledge
of UNIX, hyper media and layout skills. HTML and Perl programming.
Experience with desktop publishing software an advantage.
SALARY & RANK
Information Systems Specialist II - P 5, $29,664-$38,677
