Dear Web4libbers,
Our library have to "investigate" internet filters like SurfWatch,
NetNanny, etc., because of political pressure. Please take this topic
(admittedly, a juicy one) and tell me about:
-the technical shortcomings of the available software
-the workarounds that any computer-savvy kid will be able to use to
access whatever they like
-the effect that these "filters" have on PCs running Windows 3.1
networked with Novell Netware 4.1 and a SaberMenu front end
-which public libraries have instituted filtering
-and, heck, if you would like to talk about moral, philosophical,
political, etc. issues involved with this sort of implementation, go
full steam ahead.
Feel free to also email me directly. I will summarize for the group any
feedback that I've received.
