Site Usage Statistics

Hi all,

The UMCP Libraries is in the process of doing a rough evaluation of our Web
site. As part of that, we are analyzing site usage statistics. Our server
automatically generates data on the number of times each page is "hit" by a
user, and generates data on users' domains (e.g. .edu)

Now, another thing that would be useful are benchmarks. Do other large
university libraries also keep usage statistics, and would they be willing
to share them with others, informally?

If anyone on this list currently at an ARL library or similar library
outside North America would like to share their statistics with us, please
respond to:

If possible, include the number of hits on the library's main page (only) and
the total hits on all HTML pages throughout the site. Don't count hits on
graphics, links, etc. if counted separately.

Please describe what the statistics are, and the time period covered. If I
get enough responses, I'll post averages and variances for a weekly basis.
But in your response, please supply information for a larger time period so
that stable averages can be calculated.

As a question to those on the list, what is the general feeling about
keeping usage statistics, and informally sharing them with others? Is this
activity worth developing standards for?
