Scheduling software

This is my first post to this list, although I have been lurking for a
while. I am looking for a software product, and hoping someone can
     help.

We have a computer-training room with 24 computers which can be
divided into two classrooms. I have been asked to design a classroom
scheduling database to keep track of the courses and dates of
instruction for this room(s). I am no database expert...it seems to
me that such an animal must surely exist. Unfortunately, the products
I have found start at $1000 and go up from there. We are not
scheduling for the entire building...only for this room. (There is a
chance that two other rooms may eventually be involved). Does anyone
"out there" know of a software product that is inexpensive and
     reliable?

I know this is not a Web-specific question, but I hope you will find
     this appropriate for this list.

     TIA
