Additional documentation will be released in this section of the home page as
the NDLP continues its work in the coming years.
Documents recently released and available on the web include the two-part
report about the NDLP which first appeared in the D-Lib electronic magazine at
the CNRI website, "Historical Collections for the National Digital Library:
Lessons and Challenges at the Library of Congress", and a report prepared for
the NDLP by the Image Permanence Institute (James Reilly and Dr.Franziska
Frey), entitled, "Recommendations for the Evaluation of Digital Images
Produced from Photographic, Microphotographic, and Various Paper Formats."
This report discusses approaches to evaluate the performance of scanning
service providers and the measurement of capture resolution and tonality by
interpreting or reading test targets. The American Memory SGML Document Type
Definition (DTD) and the Encoded Archival Description homepage were also made
available this month.
Previously released information includes a discussion about the American
Memory Pilot Project, various American Memory Technical Papers: "Elements of
Digital Archive Collections", "Frameworks and Finding Aids: Organizing Digital
Archive Collections", "Reproduction Quality Issues in a Digital Library
System" and also the proceedings of the Workshop on Electronic Texts held at
LC in 1992.
