"useless" web stats

Although there is a consensus that "hits" at a web site are just next to
meaningless when it comes to translating that number into individuals, since
it is one of the only generic benchmarks there are I am trying to find a site
that lists hits for popular web sites - so far I haven't had any luck.
Any suggestions?
Hopefully said site would not include search services and browser homepages
like Netscape!
