Many thanks to all who answered my query about the USG html chart.
Most of the responses directed me to the USG Manual chart, which is available in PDF format at a
number of sites, including GPO access and NARA:
The steps are (thanks Holly!):
>Go to GPO Access at
>http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/aces/aaces002.html Go to the scroll
>box and highlight Government Manual
>or
>Go to the National Archives site:
>http://www.access.gpo/nara/index.html and select US Government Manual
>to bring up the chart, in the search form, enter the following:
>section=contents
>When the results come back (I know, this is crazy) but choose the
>entry:
>Government Manual: The Constitution of the US --- in pdf
>When the pdf viewer comes up, go to the last page of the document, and
>there is the chart on page 18! Crazy.....
The USG Manual PDF file is however not ideal for presentation purposes, for a number of reasons
(it's presented sideways, and print is minute, barely legible - in fact illegible at a couple of
sites I visited...), and you might want to explore the following alternatives:
One very nice hotlinked hierarchical arrangement, though not a chart, was suggested by a
colleague at LSU - thanks Dave!
>It's not so much a chart but the LSU Libraries Federal Agency Directory
>is based upon the U.S. Gov. Manual. It may be too linear for you need.
>It's at http://www.lib.lsu.edu/gov/fedgov.html if you'd like to see it.
Finally, there's a very nice html chart at
http://lawlib.wuacc.edu/washlaw/doclaw/orgchart/mainorg2.html.
Thanks Charles, and thanks everybody (I got about 10 answers within hours!)
