POSSIBLE SOLUTION, Re: Netscape for Windows home page quirk

We have a Windows 3.1 workstation running NS 2.02, and had the particular
problem of Netscape only reading in a portion of the page, then pausing
until the user cancelled the document request with ESC. I think I have
figured out why that happened.

The problem was fixed when I added the complete machine and domain name
to the URL, instead of just having the machine name (e.g.:
http://www-cib.mty,itesm.mx/ versus http://www-cib/)

Since i have a BASE HREF="http://www-cib.mty.itesm.mx/" tag in the homepage,
I think netscape felt the need to resolve that address for a second time
(since it had already resolved 'www-cib', with no domain). So I think there
is some problem with the DNS resolving; this means, if netscape has to look
up several different addresses, it might get 'mixed up' and stop processing
an HTTP request...

Some ppl recommend switching off the NETSCAPE.INI line "Async DNS" as
follows:

  [Network]
  Use Async DNS=no

Which I had done before actually fixing the problem. Perhaps it is a
combination of both circumnstances.

SO, specifically, Paul Soderdahl or someone else could check on their
end, if providing a homepage that has no references to outside URLs
(meaning Netscape doesn't need any further DNS resolving) solves the
problem, then it's a workaround to a Netscape bug for now.

(Paul, I see your homepage http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/biz/ has references
to images on another server...)

Then again, it could very well be a Trumpet bug.. I don't know about the
setups of the machines of the people having problems with this; please
share.

Hope this helps!
