Actually, I consider myself medium-to-heavy weight in project management, and I
always bemoan the lack of tools that support my method of projecting my project
timelines, which tends to be driven by
And several products that were slow, and DOS-based, but useful to me have
fallen by the wayside over the years.
Go with MS Project. Yes, it's complex --- but it's really fairly functional,
and if you talk to people who are knowledgeable about project management,
they'll help you use it in a "minimalist" way. Just knowing what to cut out,
of all of the things that you can track, and representing it to YOURSELF in a
way that communicates is really valuable.
What none of these tools do is to provide a communication bridge to the folks
who don't understand project management. And I had to dummy up 9 major
projects in April for a priority-settting session that was gonna take us into
1999. So, I tried what I thought was a minimalist approach, and it worked for
many, and others grudgingly "came along".
Project management-based schemas of "work to be done" are great tools for
communicating among the converted, however.
My --- this *is* a messianic post, isn't it?
Anyway --- go with MS Project --- the use base is probably the largest and most
diverse there.

>>> on web4lib, Elisa reports that she is drowning in projects:
Help! I'm drowning in projects.
Suddenly everyone wants something up on our Web site, whether it is
information, so form or some something, I am in the process of
developing manageable (?) projects from all of the departmental
requests.
I starting thinking that there is probably a decent project management
software package out there, Are any of you using such a package? What
are the pros and cons of using it to manage Web projects? We have
people in our company that use Microsoft Project, but the reviews have
been mixed. I also recently received information on PVCS Tracker from
Intersolv, although it may be a little too software project-oriented.
Any opinions? Suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
