Subject: JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

         System Librarian:

         The Library of the Pan American Health Organization,
Regional Office of the World Health Organization for the Americas,
Washington, D.C. needs to hire a consultant to provide technical
guidance and advice for selecting a suitable new integrated
system for the Library, PC compatible with OCLC and the full text
database (in FolioVIEWS). Also for enhancing and extending the
capabilities of the cataloguing processes and services, such as
inter-library loans and document delivery, selective dissemination
of information, payment of invoices, and statistics of journals
photocopies.  It is needed to become less dependent of the LAN
and use INTERNET connections for all possible library activities.
Cost study will be required.


         The Library also provides services to staff of the
Institution assigned in 28 offices in all Latin
America and Caribbean countries.

         Qualifications:

         A Master of Library Science or Master in Computer Science
degree with extensive knowledge of library automation.  Commitment
to responsive and innovative library service.  Most
important, due to the changing electronic communications
environment, preference will be given to a consultant who had
professional level library system experience withing the past year.
