Library Systems Coordinator
The Joint Libraries of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint
John's University invite applications for the position of Library
Systems Coordinator. This newly-created position will coordinate
the planning, installation, training, and operational support for
computer hardware, software, and networks dedicated to library
functions, including the integrated system, stand-alone and
networked CD-ROM systems, Internet resources and remote services,
multimedia products and library office automation. Reporting to
the Associate Director for Public Services, the coordinator will
work closely with library staff, Computing Services, vendors, and
library users. The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's
University operate a single campus network connecting over 850
personal computer workstations running at ethernet speed which will
soon migrate to WindowsNT. The Joint Libraries intend to take
advantage of this environment by delivering as many services as
possible over this network to faculty offices, student dorm rooms,
and public access computing areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage operation of CD-ROM and Internet-based
resources and services in the libraries; coordinate procurement,
installation, documentation, security, and troubleshooting; oversee
related contracts and accounts; plan computing budgets and conduct
staff training. Assist in developing customized interface and
access mechanisms related to electronic resources. Coordinate
long-range planning for the continued integration of information
technology into library services. Participate in reference and
library instruction services.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited Master's degree in
Library Science, Master's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent
professional-level experience. Strong written and oral
communications skills; commitment to collaborative work
environment; ability to handle multiple priorities; strong working
knowledge of integrated library systems; experience with WWW-CGI
programming, UNIX, and PERL. Highly desired: ability to develop
Java and Shockwave applications; experience coordinating World Wide
Web site.
This a full time, 12 month position, with an excellent fringe
benefits package. Salary dependent on qualifications.
