Ball State University is a comprehensive regional university with
approximately 19,000 students and 1,000 faculty.  It is located fifty
miles northeast of Indianapolis in Muncie, whose population numbers
about 80,000.  The University Libraries consist of a main collection
and two branch libraries with holdings of 1.5 million volumes.  It
employs 40 librarians and 82 support staff.

Automation Services Librarian.  Responsibilities for this position
include: assist the Director of Library Automated Systems with the
management of the Automation Services unit and University Libraries
systems including INNOPAC and NOTIS LMS; evaluate and recommend new
information technology for incorporation into University Libraries;
plan, recommend, and oversee appropriate security measures; in
cooperation with other library units, train library faculty, staff and
students through formal instruction, documentation and information
consultation; supervise Systems Coordinator/LAN Specialist and Library
Programmer/Analyst.  Minimum Qualifications: MLS from an
ALA-accredited program or equivalent; effective communication skills;
knowledge of current and emerging library technologies; understanding
of issues, needs and concerns of libraries as they relate to
information technology.  Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of or
experience with IBM compatible microcomputers, Microsoft Windows,
UNIX, SGML, HTML, OCLC, and integrated online systems; supervisory
experience; training experience; additional graduate degrees.  Salary:
Negotiable, $27,000 minimum.

Reference Services Librarian.  Responsibilities for this position
include: provide reference service using print and electronic
information sources to university and community users; instruct
classes in the use of electronic and print information resources using
the Library's electronic classroom technology; create library
publications including bibliographies, guides, and WWW pages;
contribute to the evaluation and development of reference services and
collections; provide individualized assistance by appointment to
individuals for research needs.  Minimum Qualifications: M.L.S. from
an A.L.A.-accredited program; effective communication skills; basic PC
skills.  Preferred Qualifications: Reference experience, particularly
with electronic information sources, including CD-ROMS, the Internet
and Dialog searching; experience with PC hardware and software, CD-ROM
installation, and HTML; library instruction or other teaching
experience and strong commitment to library instruction; experience
with legal reference; additional graduate degrees.  Salary:
Negotiable, $26,000 minimum.

Terms and Conditions for Both Positions: Twelve month, fiscal year
continuing contract with professional rank.  Faculty rank with tenure
track appointment possible depending on qualifications.  Benefits
include 24 vacations days, 12 days sick leave, TIAA/CREF, and fringe
benefits packages.
