We keep a list of search tools (keyword, subject, and more) at
http://www.utexas.edu/search/  .

We briefly annotate the tools on this list - perhaps it is what you
have in mind.  I posted this to the list in case there are others 
keeping such a list that we can learn from - so, please les
us know of good tools that we can add.  Although, to hear Lycos
talk there may be only one tool for web searching in the future.
