Role of librarians

This is a very important discussion and I think it is REAL work. We
as a profession must come to terms with our role so that we know
where we are going. Information Technology is moving so fast
towards a world where it will not matter where the user is and/or
where the information is that we must think and talk very seriously
about our response. It is indeed a world that we are not defining
but a world in which we have a useful role. It is frightening
for us to think about our profession changing in such a way that
we will not recognize it. But, it is a distinct possibility which
we must face. Adapt or die!
