In regard to HTML checkers, please note that sometimes HTML checkers "sign
themselves" in your text by putting a URL reference to themselves in your
document somewhere.

In most cases this is fine. But in one case, the URL reference pointed off
to a page which contained information on how to set up the HTML to do a
sports betting pool (as an example of the use of tables or some such thing in
HTML, I guess).

This meant that every document that was checked was immediately converted
into a document that explicitly referenced a site that posted something our
policies do not allow. Since we have a "one-hop" rule (e.g., local
webmasters are responsible for verifying that anything one hop away is
initially ok by our policies and monitoring such links for the appearance of
not allowed material), this caused a bit of a flurry of activity and
discussion.

So, the rule is "know your HTML checker"....
