I'm sorry, but IMHO librarians (and yes, I am one myself) need to stop 
worrying about what people call them, do their jobs well (like most of us 
do) and repect will follow.  Our constant worry that we are being labeled 
incorrectly (and our bickering over the correct label!) only adds to the 
perception that maybe we are not to be taken too seriously.

Sorry for the rant, but I had a belly full of this in graduate school.
