I talked with our account specialist today and asked if it will all happen
automagically or if it will cost extra and he told me 'The really good news
is that there is no added cost and this will affect all of the Adobe eBook
titles that are currently in your collection. There will not be a new
format or new content to add.'

It sounds like they want to sell AZW format to libraries rather than enable
Kindles to read EPUB. Since DRM prevents file conversion, this kind of sucks
for us, eh?

This part is particularly intriguing to me:

""We're doing a little something extra here," Marine continued. "Normally,
making margin notes in library books is a big no-no. But we're extending our
Whispersync technology so that you can highlight and add margin notes to
Kindle books you check out from your local library. Your notes will not show
up when the next patron checks out the book. But if you check out the book
again, or subsequently buy it, your notes will be there just as you left
them, perfectly Whispersynced."
