Web Services Librarian, Assistant/Associate Professor (Tenure Track), 
University of Nebraska at Kearney. 

This is a twelve-month, tenure track appointment reporting to the 
Coordinator of Collection Services. The Web Services Librarian oversees 
the development and maintenance of the library website, including 
web-based interfaces to the library catalog, services, and local 
collections. This position works both independently and collaboratively to 
provide expertise in the design, implementation, monitoring, and 
evaluation of current and future web interfaces and technologies that 
provide user access to the library's resources and services. The incumbent 
will stay informed of trends and scholarly communication in web 
technologies and library services. In addition, as with all the library 
staff, this librarian works to meet the library's goal of providing 
outstanding customer service to users, supports the general recruitment 
and retention goals of the University, and exhibits a commitment to the 
profession of librarianship. Typical responsibilities include, but are not 
limited to:   1. Administer and further develop the library's main 
website, catalog interface(s), and other web services while following best 
practices in usability and accessibility and conforming with university 
guidelines on web publishing.  2. Manage existing Web 2.0 and mobile 
applications within the library's web infrastructure; evaluate, recommend, 
and implement similar emerging technologies. 3. Gather, monitor, and 
evaluate usage statistics related to the website and web-based services. 
Coordinate usability testing of the library's web services. 4. Provide a 
leadership role on the library's Web Committee.  5. Provide technical 
instruction and support on web development tools and software to other 
library personnel. 6. Serve as an alternate ILS administrator to the 
Coordinator of Collection Services. 7. Participate in the library's 
instruction program to students and faculty. 8. Serve as library liaison 
to selected academic units. 9. Participate in the evening and weekend 
reference rotation and in online reference.  10. Represent the library on 
appropriate UNK, NU System, state, regional, national, or international 
committees.  11. Engage in scholarly and service activity as required for 
tenure and promotion.  12. Fulfill other tasks as assigned by the 
Coordinator of Collection Services or the Dean of the Library. 

Required:  1. ALA-accredited master's degree or international equivalent 
in library or information science.  2. Flexible, team-oriented, with 
demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  3. Ability 
to prioritize multiple tasks.  4. Evidence of ability to work 
independently and collegially with commitment to quality service to both 
internal and external clients. 5. Experience in web design that 
demonstrates compliance with W3C standards for functionality and 
accessibility.  6. Experience with web development, graphic design and 
video editing software tools.  7. Programming and logical thinking skills 
demonstrated with tools such as: ASP/.Net, JavaScript, MySQL, Perl, PHP, 
XML.  8. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in usability and 
interface design for desktop and mobile platforms.  9. Ability to achieve 
tenure under Board of Regents, University, and Library guidelines and 
standards. 

Preferred:  1. Experience in web development in a library, college or 
university setting.  2. Experience in public service areas of 
librarianship. 3. Experience with Innovative Interfaces' ILS.  4. 
Demonstrated ability to write concisely and effectively for the Web.  5. 
Experience administering IIS or Apache web servers.  6. Second advanced 
degree or information technology related certifications. 

Start Date:  July, 2010.  Salary $52,000 minimum and benefits.
