Position: Learning Commons Coordinator
Rank & Salary: This is an unclassified, nine-month non-tenure track 
position. Salary is $46,046.
Appointment Date: August 09, 2010 or until filled.
Location: Fort Hays State University - Forsyth Library, Hays, Kansas
Job Description: 
The Learning Commons Coordinator (LCC) has a clear vision about the 
integration of information literacy and technology into curriculum and 
teaching.  To complement this vision, the LCC has direct experience with 
the latest computer and telecommunications applications in use across the 
academic environment.  
The Learning Commons Coordinator promotes information literacy across the 
University community and supervises the direct instruction of students in 
the integration of information literacy, research and writing skills, and 
technology.  The LCC will provide instruction, participate in programmatic 
group work, and seek continuous quality improvement and professional 
development.
The Learning Commons Coordinator also represents the University in 
meetings of appropriate policy groups at the university-wide level.  The 
LCC works at the supervision of the Director of Forsyth Library and will 
assume other responsibilities and duties as requested. 
Position Description:
Promote information literacy across the curricula
Work with the Forsyth Library Public Services Coordinator, Reference 
Librarians, the Director of the Writing Center, and the Director of the 
Library to develop information literacy-centered programs
Work with Director and Library staff during strategic planning and policy 
development
Prepare regular and narrative reports on work accomplished for the 
Director of Forsyth Library
Assist students in meeting information requests and needs
Train Library staff in PC and Apple technologies
Identify and develop new programs and services that reflect sensitivity to 
diverse learning and information-gathering styles
Maintain and increase interest in the integration of information literacy, 
research, writing, and technologies
Participate in the development and maintenance of a Virtual Learning 
Commons 
Maintain and improve experience with PC-based and Apple-based software and 
hardware
Communicate and interact effectively with students, faculty, and 
administration in a scholarly setting
Clear commitment to user instruction, the Library’s educational mission, 
and the mission of Fort Hays State University
Active, productive involvement in professional activities
Supervise all Learning Commons activities
Supervise approximately ten Student Personnel
Maintain and improve experience with mobile teaching and learning 
technologies
Develop and implement service standards, best practices, and assessment 
tools
Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, and development of 
Learning Commons student employees who will work as peer tutors and 
technology assistants
Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies, Technology Instruction 
or a related Discipline from an accredited institution.
High level of comfort and competency with technology.
Proven troubleshooting skills.
Ability to communicate effectively across a variety of media.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated curiosity about emerging technologies and their applications 
in higher learning.
Experience working in an academic environment.
Experience supervising student employees.
