Join us at ALA Annual in Chicago for a panel discussion: “Casting a Wide Net: Using Screencasts to Reach and Teach Library Users”
Saturday July 11, 2009
10:30am - 12:00pm
McCormick Place South, S105 a-d

Now that library content is increasingly delivered online, our ranks of virtual users are growing. How do we move beyond a synchronous, in-person service model to provide high-quality reference and instruction to these users? Screencasts are short instructional videos that can bring librarians’ expertise to our users’ fingertips, whether they are in the library building or across the country. Our panel of librarians will discuss how they are using screencasts and video tutorials at the reference desk and for user instruction, and will explore broader issues such as pedagogy, learning theories, and collaboration. Discussion and Q&A will follow.

Panelists:
Stephanie Rosenblatt, Education Librarian, California State University, Fullerton
Eric Frierson, Education and Political Science Librarian, University of Texas at Arlington
Mikael Jacobsen, Adult Services Librarian, Skokie Public Library, Illinois
Carmen Kazakoff-Lane, Head - Extension and Inter-Library Loans, Brandon University

Brought to you by the RUSA MARS Hot Topics in Electronic Reference Discussion Group
Sarah Lehmann and Michelle Jacobs, co-Chairs

See you in Chicago!
