VACANCY NOTICE IUE/9/2008 (SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN)
 
The European University Institute Library is seeking applications for
the position of Systems Librarian (grade AST2-AST4),  at its location in
San Domenico di Fiesole, on the outskirts of Florence, Italy. The
successful candidate will manage the Integrated Library System (ILS) and
similar applications. He/She will report to the Director of the Library.

 
Duration of contract: Temporary post for four years, with possibility of
renewal
 
Job description:
* Overall planning, implementation and management of the ILS Innovative
Interfaces Millennium System and related library applications in line
with the priorities set by the management of the Library;
* Development and exploitation of the integrated library system and its
related applications in order to support library users and staff and to
assure the integration of Millennium with other systems;
* Forecasting of needs for design and programming enhancements to
library systems, including integration with new developments in
electronic libraries;
* Developing expertise in the areas of systems architecture and systems
integration;
* Keeping up to date with professional and technical developments and
participating in relevant professional networks (Millennium Users
group);
* Training staff in the use and development of the Millennium system;
* Close liaison with the Computing Service and with systems suppliers.
 
Qualifications Required:
* Degree in Library Information Sciences, or equivalent combination of
relevant experience and training;
* Experience with the administration of an Integrated Library System;
* Experience of system development and integration, especially data
exchange between disparate systems;
* Ability to plan and manage multiple projects and assignments
concurrently and effectively;
* Thorough knowledge and understanding of general library operations and
service requirements including a strong understanding of MARC and
metadata standards;
* Strong organizational, analytical and communication (oral and written)
skills;
* Strong public service commitment to library users;
* Ability to work in an international team and in a rapidly changing
environment;
* Knowledge of Oracle SQL, UNIX. LINUX, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML/XSLT;
* Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of a second EU
language.
 
The following qualifications/experience could be an advantage:
* Experience with Innovative Interfaces' Millennium system
* Experience with Shell Scripting (bash/csh) and Perl or PHP.
* Experience in working in a university or research environment
 
Selection process:
Candidates short-listed by the Selection Board will be invited for an
interview, enabling assessment of the candidate's ability to
* Carry out the tasks of the post
* Work in a European academic institution
* Exercise language skills
 
The net monthly salary:
The net monthly salary after taxes, depending on the basis of the
profile and professional experience of the candidate selected, is from
approx. Euro 2,730 to Euro 3,200. In addition, when conditions as laid
down by the Statutes are applicable, there are family allowances -
household allowance, dependent child allowance, education allowance -
and expatriation allowance (approx. 16% of salary).
