Without knowing anything about your organization, and the amount of
traffic you get, I think it isn't really possible to give great advice
for you. You need to figure our what kind of hosting is appropriate for
you, as there are different options with different costs and benefits.

The amount of traffic you'll get I think is a big consideration in
choosing a solution. If you're considering shared hosting, you should
think it through before making a committment. Running a CMS like Drupal
may create some scalability issues when you move your site from beta
testing to actual usage. In a shared environment, you are really at the
mercy of the hosting company, and you can only hope that they haven't
put you on a machine that isn't alreay over utilized. A CMS powered site
is going to require larger amounts of computing power than a flat HTML
site. So really, you need to make some guess as to both the amount of
traffic you'll be getting and the computing demands of the functionality
you'll be offering through your Drupal-based solution. Then you can make
an initial decision about whether you need dedicated hosting, or if a
shared solution a good fit.

We're looking at moving to a CMS for our website, but in order to do so
we

Here is a very nice project that uses both lists and tags:

Harvard Law's H2O Playlist: http://h2obeta.law.harvard.edu/
[http://h2obeta.law.harvard.edu/]

You create a list of citations on a topic and then you make that list

findable via tags. Other users can then create new lists from scratch or

based on a list they find. The system tracks the lineage of the

derivatives and suggests other "playlists" with similar items or tags.

Right
now, I'm working on giving our users a mechanism to organize those saved

records.

have
some lingering doubts. I've noticed, for example, that tagging is most
often
implemented for sites in which the user *generates* the content (e.g.,
blogs, flickr). While sites that allow you to search and save records
usually employ a list metaphor (e.g., amazon [3], istockphoto).

Hello everyone,

We have scheduled our next Kete Community Meeting in Auckland on April

8th (if you have never heard of Kete, see the "What is Kete?" blurb at

the end of this email or http://kete.net.nz/ [http://kete.net.nz/]). You
can

about it here:

We've also created a topic where you can have your say in helping us

shape the programme for the day, it can be found here:

If you are interested in finding out more about the Kete software or

already a member of the Kete community we hope to see you there.

Cheers,

Walter McGinnis

Kete Project Lead

Katipo Communications, Ltd.

---

What is Kete?

Kete is an Open Source Ruby on Rails application, released under the

GPL. Initial development has been a partnership between the Horowhenua

Library Trust and Katipo Communications Ltd. funded as part of the

Community Partnership Fund in 2006.

Kete stores, organises, indexes and retrieves all sorts of digital

files including Office documents, PDF's, images, videos, audio such as

spoken word and music, website links, and html pages/text.

Kete encourages you to make links between different items that enable

users to browse your collection. It also faciltates discussion about

items and topics, so you can build understanding and foster

collaboration.

Kete by default is open so that any member of the community can

participate by adding material, or editing entries.

You can make some items private, and some public, and you can make

some areas open to public input, and others "view only".

You can collect lots of detailed information about a "thing" whether

that be a person, or a document, or picture, or you can not require a

lot at all.
