The new Learning Commons is more than just the sum of its parts. In addition to all the services previously provided by the Library, the Baker Center, Media Services, and Academic Computing, the Learning Commons now has integrated assistance in many areas. For example, the reference librarians and the writing tutors (located on the 2nd floor) will be working in tandem to more fully and more seamlessly meet students needs. Computers on spacious work tables are now available throughout the area, allowing students to spread out their work, to work together, or to work with a tutor. Using their TC3 cards, students can obtain keys to one of our comfortable group study rooms, each of which is equipped with wireless internet and a large white board. Soft, comfortable seating is also provided throughout the Learning Commons. Students can check out mini-DVD players from the media center to use anywhere within the Learning Commons, including the new Fireside Café. Patrons can also take books, reference materials, periodicals and borrowed laptops into the café, which will be serving drinks and light snacks during the day and early evening. Other additions to the Learning Commons, available after March 08, include a language lab and a multi-media creation room with software and hardware to allow students to create integrated media presentations.
