[Web4lib] Intranet revamp

I think we would want to consider those same issues before we went with
anything remotely hosted. We also have personal staff phone numbers
posted on our intranet and even though Google is great for many things,
I am not sure that I want them keeping information about our staff.

I haven't used Google docs much at all, so maybe someone else can chime
in on this, but our intranet is much more than just various types of
documents, like policies and procedures. It's also a list of committee
meetings, training sessions, a reference blog and more. It seems to me
that even if we were to use Google Calendar with Docs, information would
be in disparate locations that would be difficult for our staff to pull
together.

Thanks,
Paula

We use a private, password & IP address controlled Intranet still
because we do make available things like unlisted staff phone numbers
(we live in a "snow-day" state where the library closes at least once
a year due to weather - gotta have that phone number information handy
to let people know to stay home) and "problem patron" information -
complete with library card numbers sometimes. We have a couple of
staff members who are pretty serious about keeping their numbers
unlisted and unknown to the general public. I'm not sure they would be
comfortable with that information in anything from Google. I'm not
sure our director would be interested in us posting patron information
in anything remotely hosted, either...
