I just did this recently for a non-library-related site (http://www.beadsocietyfl.org) which was built using Google Sites. I registered the domain through godaddy.com, which had a really simple process to follow to set up the redirect and was very inexpensive, but I'm sure there are many other hosts that will do redirects inexpensively and easily.

Some problems I have encountered - 1) Google does not seem to want to index the site (despite the fact that it's built using a Google product and hosted on their servers). I have submitted it several times to be indexed, and it has been ignored. I've tried using the beadsocietyfl.org URL as well as the real URL which is http://sites.google.com/site/beadsociety/.   2) Some people use browsers which are set to block redirects, and if they aren't web-savvy, they tend to think the site is broken. Nothing against AOL or its users, but most of the problems that I've heard about have been from people using AOL's built-in browser. People using AOL with a 3rd party browser such as IE or Firefox don't seem to have any problems. I haven't had a chance to thoroughly investigate this though.
