[Web4lib] Position: Webmaster/Developer, University of St. Thomas Libraries, St. Paul, MN

The University of St. Thomas seeks a Web Developer for the Libraries. 


This position will serve as webmaster/developer for the Libraries,
supporting the research and instructional needs of the UST community by
developing, maintaining, and managing the Libraries' website
(http://www.stthomas.edu/libraries/) and other applications and
services. The Libraries web site includes: 

*	#3 most visited site at the university (over 300 thousand
visits, 07-08) 
*	access to print and electronic resources costing well over $1
million per year 
*	more than 250 databases with over 40,000 electronic journal
titles. 


Responsibilities of the position include: 

*	Site development, maintenance, and administration: designing and
maintaining site navigation, creating and updating content, reporting
broken links, troubleshooting malfunctioning pages and other issues with
the university's content management system, supporting digitization
projects, supporting content creators in a highly decentralized
environment, developing expert knowledge of the Webtrends statistics
software and other tools to understand how users interact with our site
and develop recommendations for improvements. 
*	Application development: design and program applications that
facilitate user discovery and use of library materials. Possible
projects could include developing online tutorial materials;
developing/improving the Libraries IM reference chat presence, including
the incorporation of SMS/text messaging; producing improved templates
and interactivity for the Libraries subject research guides; developing
and maintaining content for the UST portal; and otherwise improving the
attractiveness, usability, and interactivity of our resources. 
*	User training and assistance: develop and deliver training on
the website management software and other technology tools. 
*	Digital information design: work to improve the graphical
appearance of our digital offerings and assist with our online
communications

Qualifications: BA/BS degree in MIS, computer sciences or equivalent and
2 years of professional experience, or combination of education and
experience to total 6 years. 

Experience must include some of the following programming languages to
an advanced level: Java/JSP (JEE), PHP, ASP, XML, HTML, CSS,
JavaScript/AJAX, SQL, VBScript, along with formal training in using
Oracle SQL/SQL Server or other relational databases. Experience ideally
would include Photoshop, Flash, Captivate, or other current interactive
design tools. Experience developing applications that function
effectively in a website primarily driven by a content management system
is highly desired. 


The successful candidate will be customer service and team driven with
strong written and oral communications skills. Experience with project
and task management, strong organizational and presentation skills, and
the ability to work independently as well as part of a team are
essential. The ability to adapt to a rapidly changing library resource
and service environment is required. Knowledge of or experience with
library resources and services is a plus.
