Library Assistant (part-time)

 

The Endocrine Society, a membership organization serving physicians and scientists, seeks an experienced library assistant to aid in developing the Clark T. Sawin Library. 

 

Dr.  Sawin (1934-2004) was a distinguished physician, scientist, and historian.  The Sawin Library is a historical library consisting of several thousand books from Dr. Sawin's collection as well as his professional papers.

 

 The library assistant reports to the Senior Director, Corporate Relations, and will work closely with vendors and full-time Endocrine society staff to implement an online public access catalog (OPAC).  The person in the position will be the sole employee whose work is fully dedicated to the library.  He or she must therefore be able to work creatively and independently.

 

Responsibilities:

·         conversion of a library inventory currently entered on spreadsheets into a database of MARC records, and 

·         making those records accessible though a new, web-based, catalog. 

 

Requirements: 

*	extensive experience in a library cataloging department
*	familiarity with cataloging rules and MARC format
*	data entry capability, strong typing skills and experience with MS Office.  

 

Preference will be given to applicants with formal library training and/or with experience in original cataloging. This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule of 15 - 20 hours per week.
