SYSTEMS SPECIALIST LIBRARIAN

 

California State University, Dominguez Hills and the University Library
invite applications for an experienced, enthusiastic leader for the
position of Systems Specialist Librarian.  The Systems Specialist
Librarian is responsible for the evaluation, planning, coordination,
implementation, and maintenance of all automation systems in the
library.  The successful candidate will make significant contributions
as a member of a growing library staff planning a move to a five-story
Library Addition which will be built on the south side of the existing
library.  

 

Responsibilities

 

Provide leadership for the administration, planning, and assessment of
the automated systems in the library in support of the Library's mission
and goals, and ensures the rapid and effective delivery of automated
services to meet needs of library users and staff.  Upgrades and
maintains the Innovative Interfaces Millennium Integrated Library
System, the Library's Local Area Network, library servers, public
desktops, and university systems that interface with the library.
Coordinates system upgrades, new release installations, data
import/export, and special projects related to the OPAC, access
services, acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, electronic
collections, and Interlibrary Loan; assists in maintaining the library
website including updates, enhancements, and functionality.
Participates in training required to implement and maintain services;
trains staff as appropriate.  Keeps up-to-date with current trends, new
technology, and best practices in librarianship and information
technology; evaluates and recommends implementation of new or enhanced
technologies to improve delivery of library services. Works closely with
library staff, University Information Technology Department, CSUDH
committees, and California State University system-wide personnel and
committees.  The position will include supervisory responsibilities,
reference desk assignments, collection development, and service on
library, campus and system-wide committees.  May require a flexible
schedule with some evenings and/or weekends.  Other duties as assigned.
Commitment to professional development and ability to meet the
requirement of tenure and promotion as a faculty member.

Qualifications

 

Required: M.L.S or M.L.I.S. from an ALA-accredited Library School
required at the time of employment.  Experience in library system
administration including, but not limited to, networking, automation
infrastructure, local area networks, operating systems, online public
access catalogs, and/or equipment maintenance. Analytic and
problem-solving skills, demonstrated aptitude for technical analysis and
detailed work, effective organizational, interpersonal, and
communication skills with the ability to work in a team-based
environment; ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently in a rapidly
changing environment, and the ability to work effectively and
collaboratively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus
community.  A minimum of three years experience in automated library
systems is required.   

 

Preferred: Experience with Innovative Interface's Millennium ILS.
Reference experience with both print and electronic resources.
Supervisory experience.  

 

Terms of Appointment and Salary

 

This is a full-time, 12 month, tenure-track faculty position, and
librarians are expected to meet faculty requirements for scholarship,
professional development, and service to the campus community.
Appointment will be as Senior Assistant or Associate Librarian dependent
on qualifications and experience.  Salary will be dependent upon
professional experience and qualifications.  Hiring salary range for
Senior Assistant Librarian:  $55,944 - $59,944.  Hiring salary range for
Associate Librarian:  $64,320 - $70,608.

 

Anticipated Start Date:   December 1, 2007.

consists of 9 professional librarians and 14 paraprofessionals.
