Web Applications and Support Librarian

RESPONSIBILITIES

The University of Alabama seeks qualified applicants for the position of Web
Applications and Support Librarian. This faculty position will be
responsible for the technical functionality and effective graphic design of
the web site and web pages; developing interactive web pages that enhance
access to collections, providing seamless user services, and facilitating
the work of library employees; maintaining existing, and developing new, web
applications that support the web site; developing and supporting CMS and
web-based software tools. This person will also provide software training
and technical support to content providers for web-based software; technical
support for gathering, reporting, and evaluating statistics and data as well
as for facilitating the use of assessment and other tools; maintain currency
with cutting edge web technologies, software, tools, and solutions and
participate in evaluation and assessment efforts, implementing changes as
needed.

*REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

A Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution, or
a Master's degree in another technology-related field; excellent
communication, interpersonal and team skills. Minimum three years of IT
application software design and development experience. One year of design
and development experience with web applications such as HTML, XHTML, and
CSS. Knowledge of XML and XSLT. Experience with effective graphic design
principles for the Web. Experience and knowledge in at least one of the
following areas: Perl, PHP/ASP, Java/Tomcat, and JavaScript in a UNIX or
Windows-based, web server environment. Initiative, flexibility, and problem
solving skills. Ability to meet professional standards and competencies such
as those set forth by the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries
(ASERL) http://www.aserl.org/statements/competencies/competencies.htm

*PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*

Knowledge of current web and web accessibility standards.
Knowledge of MySQL. Experience developing/deploying Content Management
Software.  Experience in academic libraries.

The University Libraries maintains membership in the Association of Research
Libraries, SPARC, the Center for Research Libraries, the Coalition for
Networked Information, SOLINET, and the Network of Alabama Academic
Libraries. The Libraries use Endeavor's Voyager Integrated Library System.

SALARY/BENEFITS

12-month tenure track appointment. Rank and salary commensurate with
