A couple notes on this strange discussion.. you'd think a library had
given up books! :).. anyway, it's fun to see the reactions to trying
something out in a public library..

1) You all might have missed this late May (5/31/07) article from LJ:
http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/ca6448055.html
Recommended background reading..

2) The catalog is online, you can see the subject headings are there, so
really what changed was the shelving locations, labels, signage, and
taxonomy for the shelving.
See http://www.mcldaz.org/default.aspx
and pick the Perry Branch.

3) This is a joint-use facility with a high school. I think that might
have impacted the decision to do this library with this shelving
system/approach.

See http://www.mcldaz.org/library/userdef/branches/ud_mcld_branch_GI.aspx

"Perry Branch Library in Gilbert opened in June 2007 and is located on
the grounds the Chandler Unified School District’s Perry High School.
This joint-use facility was built by the Chandler Unified School
District and the Town of Gilbert and is operated as a branch of the
Maricopa County Library District. It is located on the Southwest corner
of 156th Street and Queen Creek Road. The branch library entrance is on
156th Street.

The 28,000-sq. ft. facility has over 30 computers, a full range of
materials (30,000 items) and is a one-stop library with the latest in
technology."
