[Web4lib] Library Web site redesign

Diana,

We redesigned our Innovative OPAC interface about 3 years ago. My colleagues Scott Breivold and Stephen Sottong had a good presentation at the ALA annual conference in 2003. We've been making some minor changes since then, but the overall design stayed the same since the design was very well received by our students and faculty on campus.

Here is our current interface: http://www.calstatela.edu/library/opac/catalog.html

Here is the presentation at ALA which takes you through the entire design process:

Please look at #3 "OPAC Interface Design" under Presentation.

Actually, a different group worked with Innovative to
design the OPAC interface. The term "boolean" has been
my pet peeve, by the way, especially when "keyword" is
used on other pages.

Right now, I'm concentrating on this "battle of the
Web sites" with IT. As soon as we have an approved
design (hopefully this Thursday) and the Web site is
up and running, we will work on the OPAC. You offer
great specific suggestions for improvement. I'm also
going to suggest we do user testing on the OPAC as
well.

Thanks,
Diana Myers Hyatt
